The Grand Pavilion
The beautiful and imposing Grand Pavilion is nestled away in the picturesque valley of Matlock Bath but don’t let that fool you, this haunted building has a very dark, eerie and spooky feel inside as well as many ghostly reports.
There have been many sightings of a lady in white seen looking through the windows on second floor out towards the river. It is documented that some children drowned in the river many years ago and it is believed that the spirit of the lady is linked to them.
On the bowling green to the side of the Pavilion a figure has been seen walking back and forth, which is where a man tragically died when the ground collapsed into a tunnel underneath.
Many voices and noises are heard around the building when there is no one around, cries of children heard back and forth through the corridors. Feelings of anxiety, breathlessness and being touched in certain areas. There is believed to be a man around the first-floor corridor that is not particularly pleasant, leaving many people feeling uneasy and wanting to leave suddenly. Photos have also captured ghostly faces in the stage hall.
The ghost of a caretaker has been seen around the stage area and his presence is often felt by the volunteers involved in the restoration project of the Pavilion.
The topmost level of the building sits the dome structure and when this was being constructed, a surveyor working in this area missed his footing and fell several floors to his death. This area is said to be particularly active.
The Pavilion is open to the public during the day so we couldnt start till quite late. Five of us here though so a good turnout, we have 2 cameras , 2 dictaphones, the thermal sensor and an EMF recorder.

We split into teams to cover ground, Thomas and I covered the second floor and Haly went with Anarchy and Willow, something about female intuition
For a place as rich in activity as the Pavilion is purported to be we had very little activity. That’s not to say nothing happened but nothing we had evidence of. Team Valkyrie (as we called them) did another séance and a spirit walk.
They reported a very odd landscape whilst on the spirit walk and that they made contact to most of the spirits. None of it is on film however, the one they used seemed to turn off before they even started.
Still, enough activity to stage a return and next time we’ll see if can record the whole thing
