Cogges Manor

Mentioned in the doomsday book Cogges Manor looks like a tranquil cottage but inside theres a lot of spirit activity. The manor dates to the 13th century and is said to be haunted by the ghosts of a drummer boy and French prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars and other ghostly residents include a man said to be a sergeant-major who enjoys whistling while haunting the house. The old barn is reported to be a very intimidating area at night

We arrived Saturday  morning and spent the time interviewing witnesses.

A member of the horse riding staff witnessed a leather strap be thrown by someone unseen across the corridor that she was walking along.

The upper floor of the house is another area where there have been reports of ghostly footsteps and bangs are often heard, and wet patches on the floor with no evidence for how they appeared. These are said to be made by a former guest who stole from the family and was drowned when they fled.

Only the 2 of us this time, I had the camera of course and Haly the thermal sensor and a Dictaphone.

We made this a long one and started in the afternoon, there’s a fair bit of outside ground to cover where there is often activity. We covered the lake for context,

We had a lot of activity overnight, a lot. Thermal sensors were picking up wild differences and we could actually see our breath fog AND it shows on camera!

Whilst at old barn we recorded sounds of what appears to be a volley of gunfire, perhaps a firing squad?

Haly suggested we try a séance, its not something I’ve done much of but she was instant that she could feel a lot of activity So we picked an upstairs corridor where there are the most frequent reports of wet patches, like footsteps. Oh boy did that pay off, the air chilled again and I’m sure we got a smokey figure on camera standing behind Haly as she did the séance. Haly spoke to the spirits and we got quite a few knocks in response.

Fantasitc visit and we will be going back again, with more people next time!
